Petition privacy

Here’s what we collect when you sign, leave a message, or share a photo, and how to ask us to remove it.

Updated .

What signing collects

We collect your first and last name and email address. You may provide your city and state, make the optional attendance pledge, and allow your first name and last initial to appear on a public supporter list. These choices are separate. Public-name permission and the pledge are unchecked by default.

How your details are used

Your email is used to confirm new signatures and prevent duplicates; it is not displayed publicly. We plan to deliver your name and any city and state you provide with the petition to Orioles leadership. Your email is excluded from that petition delivery. We do not sell your information.

The public page shows aggregate signature and pledge counts and a Recently signed list of up to 20 active supporters who chose public-name permission. That list displays only first name and last initial, newest first. Your email, full last name, city and state are not displayed. A confirmed new signature counts even without public-name permission. Historical signatures remain as previously recorded and are not relabeled as email-confirmed.

Receipt and email

You’ll see a receipt after your pending submission is saved. New signatures remain private and do not count until you open the requested email link and choose Confirm. Each email address counts once. Links expire after 48 hours and work once; opening the link alone makes no changes. Existing signatures are preserved and will not receive retroactive confirmation emails. Campaign emails and newsletters have not started. We do not track email opens or clicks.

Messages and public display

The message form collects your first name, last initial, private email address, message, its intended recipient, and your privacy and public-display consent. Messages wait for organizer review. Only approved messages with public-display consent appear on the page, with your first name and last initial. Your email is not displayed publicly. Submitting a message does not sign the petition or opt you into emails.

Optional campaign updates when you sign

The optional “Email me campaign updates” checkbox is unchecked by default. You can sign without selecting it. If you select it, we reuse the first name and private email address you enter for your signature to record a separate, pending email preference with your explicit opt-in, policy version and capture time. It does not add another signature or change the petition count.

Email updates have not started. Confirming a petition signature does not activate a newsletter subscription. A separate preference remains pending. Existing unsubscribe, bounce or complaint restrictions are preserved. Message submissions do not opt you into emails.

Your newsletter choice is saved separately with your pending request. Confirmation does not subscribe you automatically. To request updates, withdraw a preference or request removal of a message, email the organizer. Requests are reviewed by the organizer.

Photos

The photo form collects your photo, display name, private email address, optional caption, and explicit rights, publication and privacy consent. Your browser prepares a resized JPEG without the original location metadata; the server checks the file again and strips embedded image metadata. We use Resend to send the requested verification link to your email address.

We save your photo privately and queue its verification email before showing a received receipt. Your photo stays private until you confirm your email and the organizer approves it. Approval allows publication of the photo, caption and display name, not your email address. Interrupted email attempts are retried automatically with the same link, within safe limits. A received receipt does not guarantee delivery. If saving fails, keep the form open and retry; if an email never arrives, contact the organizer.

The separate, unchecked campaign-update option records your preference with the photo submission. It does not start an active newsletter subscription or authorize public display of your email. Verification emails do not use open or click tracking. To request removal of a photo or withdraw a preference, email the organizer; the organizer reviews these requests.

Service providers, security and website preferences

Cloudflare hosts the website and stores campaign records and submitted photos. Authorized organizer tools can access private submission details for review and campaign administration. Resend receives the email address and verification-message content needed to deliver a requested photo or petition confirmation. Private verification jobs and exact email payloads are stored in Cloudflare for reliable retries. Confirmation tokens are protected in private storage; confirmation pages use no analytics and do not put tokens in request URLs. We do not include your email address in public supporter lists, messages, photo captions or petition delivery.

We use Cloudflare Turnstile to help block automated submissions. The service processes security information, and we store a salted hash derived from your IP address for abuse prevention. Cloudflare receives network information such as your IP address to host and secure requests; its security services may use cookies. The organizer’s submission records use the salted hash for abuse prevention rather than a raw IP address.

Cloudflare provides aggregate website analytics and request/security information. These measurements are separate from petition form submissions. Google Fonts supplies the page’s fonts and receives ordinary font-request information, including your IP address and browser headers; we do not send it your petition fields. Your browser stores the gallery-view choice locally so it can remember Carousel or Grid; it does not store your signature or upload form entries for this purpose.

Retention and removal requests

Campaign records, submitted photos, review history and recorded preferences are retained while the organizer administers and delivers the petition; there is no automatic deletion schedule. Public removal and deletion of retained records are reviewed separately by the organizer. To request removal of your signature or ask about your information, email the organizer. Requests are reviewed by the organizer; this page does not provide automatic removal.

Public messages, photo captions and display names are content you choose to share. Avoid including private contact details, sensitive documents or other people’s private information.
